Description The quantitative D-dimer test may be used to rule out deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary emboli when the result is less than 240 ng/mL. Further, the quantitative D-dimer has replaced the semiquantitative D-dimer test as a test of primary importance in the diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). DIC is presumed when the D-dimer result exceeds 500 ng/mL.
Reference Interval Less than 240 ng/mL
Critical Value --
Therapeutic Range --
Follow-up Test When the D-dimer is used to test for disseminated intravascular coagulation, it is performed with the activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time, fibrinogen activity assay, and platelet count.
Associated With Disseminated intravascular coagulation
Associated With Venous thrombosis
Associated With Liver disease
